The Problem
Social connection platforms overwhelmingly prioritize surface-level attributes — photos, quick swipes, and popularity metrics. Users seeking deeper, value-aligned connections feel underserved. SoulLink needed a design philosophy that put personal values, communication style, and shared interests at the center of the discovery experience.

Research & Discovery
Benchmarked leading social platforms to map UX patterns and identify whitespace. Developed a detailed user persona revealing that users valued authenticity and safety over volume, felt frustrated by superficial sorting, and wanted guided conversation prompts. Empathy mapping surfaced the tension between wanting genuine connection and feeling exposed in digital spaces.

Design Decisions
Chose a dark UI with warm highlights to create an intimate, premium atmosphere that signals depth over casual browsing. Designed a values-first onboarding that collects lifestyle preferences and communication style before any matching occurs — ensuring the system has meaningful signals from day one. Integrated contextual icebreakers based on shared interests and values, reducing the friction of initiating meaningful dialogue.

Outcome
Project is in active development. The research-driven approach resulted in a design that consistently outperforms competitors in perceived authenticity during user testing sessions. This project demonstrates full UX process ownership — from research through design system to final screens, showing ability to work independently on ambiguous problems and make research-informed design decisions.
